Dynamic Youth sets track record in NYSS on Sunday at Tioga Downs

Dynamic Youth and Mark Macdonald established a new track record for 3-year-old gelding pacers on Sunday afternoon at Tioga Downs in a division of the New York Sire Stakes.

Dynamic Youth unleashes a track record performance
Settling in next to last in a field of six, Dynamic Youth and Macdonald watched as an early battle for control produced quick fractions of 26.2 and 54.1. The race favorite Coral Snake (George Brennan) was battling with Major Bombay (Jason Bartlett) for the lead when Steelhead Hanover (Jim Morrill Jr.) launched their first over bid.

Morrill had Steelhead Hanover right at Coral Snake's throat by three quarters in a blistering 1:21.4. Around the final turn, Forever Just (Tim Tetrick) looked to be a winner tipping three wide off of cover, but Macdonald unleashed Dynamic Youth off of Tetrick's helmet for the win in 1:49.3.

The mile destroyed the previous record for 3-year-old gelding pacers of 1:50.4 held by Art Z from 2011. It was the fourth win in nine seasonal starts for the 3-year-old son of Bettor's Delight – Always True, who is trained by Aarom Lambert for the partnership of Silva, Tucci, and C&G Racing.

"I settled him in second from last and as they were battling up front he acted like he wasn't interested," said winning driver Macdonald. "When we got to the five eighth's mark he caught the field and had a really nice kick off of cover around the final turn and paced home great."

Heston Blue Chip matches his own track record
In the final division on the afternoon, Heston Blue Chip, was making his first start back since his fourth place finish in the Meadowlands Pace. It was back to business as usual as Heston Blue Chip and Tim Tetrick took control by the three eighth's pole and cruised to an open length victory in 1:49.2.

The mile equaled his track record that he set only six weeks ago in the Historic Series. The 3-year-old son of American Ideal – Shot Togo Bluechip will be heading to the Empire Breeders' Classic eliminations back at Tioga Downs on Sunday, August 5th.

Capturing the other division of the New York Sire Stakes for 3-year-old colt pacers was Racing Rocky (Tim Tetrick) 1:51.2 for trainer George Teague Jr.

Major Look is dazzling in Tompkins-Geers at Tioga Downs

Major Look, fresh off of her Mistletoe Shalee win over world champion, American Jewel, returned to action on Sunday afternoon at Tioga Downs in the Tompkins-Geers.

The overwhelming favorite did not disappoint her supporters as she carved the mile out for herself putting up fractions of 27, 54.3, and 1:21.4 before drawing away from the field with ease in a new stakes record of 1:49.3.

The mile was just a fifth of a second off of the track record for 3-year-old filly pacers held by See You At Peelers.

This was the second straight sub-50 performance by the 3-year-old daughter of Art Major – Band Of Emeralds, who is owned in partnership by Balkunas, Giordano, and Pancella. Kevin McDermott took over the training just a few weeks ago for his friend and trainer, Robert Riddle, who was injured at the barn while working with Major Look.

"I just took over training her a couple weeks ago after Major Look had injured Bob (former trainer – Robert Riddle) around the barn. She (Major Look) is a very, very special filly, and Gregory (driver – Jeff Gregory) said when he asked her at the top of the stretch today she took right off. Her next start will be next Saturday afternoon in the Adio Volo at The Meadows," said winning trainer, Kevin McDermott in the winner's circle.

Steelhead Hanover and Joe Pavia Jr. posted the fastest mile for the 3-year-old pacing colts in the first of two divisions on Sunday afternoon. Pavia moved Steelhead Hanover at the quarter and went on to hold off Forever Just (Jason Bartlett) from the pocket to win in 1:50. The mile established a new lifetime mark for the 3-year-old son of Bettor's Delight – Special Beauty for the partnership of Agc Stables, Dijo Racing, Barbera, and Held.

Archangel sets stakes mark in Tompkins-Geers on Saturday night at Tioga Downs

Archangel prepped for the Hambletonian on Saturday night at Tioga Downs with a stakes record performance of 1:54.3 in the Tompkins-Geers.

Starting from post number three in a field of six, catch driver Fern Paquet Jr. wasted no time getting Archangel to the front through an opening quarter in 28.2. The duo then strolled through a leisurely 58.1 half mile before getting down to business and opening up on the field by three quarters in 1:26.1. Paquet kept the colts mind on business in the stretch but was well within himself across the wire in 1:54.3.

Peter Arrigenna who trains and co-owns the 3-year-old son of Credit Winner – Michelle's Angel was full of emotion in the winner's circle following the victory.

"We really took our time with him at two and he has really come along this year as a three year old and has just been super," said Arrigenna. "Next Saturday night we will be heading to the Hambletonian eliminations with him at The Meadowlands, and I am just so proud of him."

Archangel has won seven straight this year as a sophomore, with his one blemish coming in his first start of the year where he finished second to the other Tompkins-Geers division winner on Saturday night, Coraggioso.

Coraggioso and Phil Fluet scored a front end victory in easy fashion of 1:55.1 for his fifth win in eight seasonal starts. The 3-year-old son of Conway Hall – Electra Hanover is owned in partnership by Joe Spadaro and Tom Durkin.

Kristins Victory (Jim Meittinis) also established a stakes record in the Tompkins-Geers on Saturday night, this one for 3-year-old filly trotters. The mile of 1:55.1 erased the previous mark held by Lassie's Goal from 1998 at Scioto Downs. Karen Garland trains Kristins Victory for Stephen Smith of New Jersey, and the win was the first of the year for the daughter of Cash Hall – Treasured Victory. Capturing the second divisions for 3-year-old filly trotters was Fortunista (Mike Merton) in 1:56.2.

Shebestingin wins impressively in Tompkins-Geers stakes at Tioga Downs

Shebestingin looked impressive on the program lines coming into Friday night's Tompkins-Geers stakes for 2-year-old filly pacers at Tioga Downs. When the race was over she reassured everyone that was not deceiving winning her division impressively in 1:53.4.

David Miller was unhurried from post position number three and settled in fifth as the field cut through fractions of 27.3 and 57.3. At the half mile mark of the race, Miller sent Shebestingin to the outside and then was quickly sent three wide down the backside as she was not looking for cover. Three quarters popped up in 1:25.2 and Shebestinging was in front by open lengths and she continued that way under wraps in a new lifetime best of 1:53.4.

"She is a very nice filly and she has very high, high speed," said winning trainer Joe Holloway. "She is better tracking horses than she is on the front which a lot of horses are and David was looking to come off the pace he just wasn't looking for any cover."

"To David's credit (driver-David Miller), after the first time he baby raced her he told me that he would stick with her for the rest of the year." added Holloway.

The 2-year-old daughter of Bettor's Delight – Armbro Tussle is now a perfect three for three in her young racing career for Val D'Or Farms, Gewertz, and L&L Devisser.

Leaving from post one in a full field of nine, MacDonald got away fourth as Aruba Vacation (Fern Paquet Jr.) led the field by an opening quarter in 28.

MacDonald moved Don't Know Chip to the outside to brush to the front, but Paquet would not release Don't Know Chip and forced him into the first over position by a half in 57.4.

At the three quarter mile mark of the race in 1:25.4, Dan Noble sent Tac's Delight three wide to challenge the dueling leaders.
